Orakei Korako remains the largest and most variable geyser field in New Zealand. The most well known of these, the Diamond Geyser, has eruptions that can last from a few minutes to many hours, ejecting boiling water as high as 30 ft (9 metres) in the air. Thanks for your lovely review. Yes, Orakei Korako has everything you could expect of a geothermal park; 23 active geysers (more than any other NZ park), the incredible silica terraces cascading into the river (the largest in NZ), one of only two geothermal caves in the world and all the other bubbling pools and so on, all set in a pristine, natural setting/5(K).

We found Orakei Korako’s website and decided to visit while in Taupo rather than heading to Rotorua. We were very happy with our decision/5(K). The Modoc hot springs system is more akin to the active geothermal fields situated on the margins of the rift than those in the center of the Trough. It is strikingly similar to the high-silica Dunes geothermal system, which has no surface expression largely due to the .

Come and explore a volcanic world of gushing geysers, hot springs, bubbling mud pools and some of the largest and most amazing silica terraces in the world. Wander through the Hidden Valley and visit the thermal Ruatapu Cave which extends more than 36m down into volcanic tuff to the 'Waiwhakaata' or 'Pool of Mirrors' hot pool at the bottom.
The hot springs, geysers and clear blue pools at Orakei Korako discharge alkali chloride water. This water ascends quickly to the surface from deep reservoirs where the temperature is hotter than °C. Upon discharge at the surface these waters cool.
As they cool below °C, the silica that is carried in the water is deposited at the surface, forming the white silica sinter on: Orakeikorako Road, Taupo, Orakei Korako boasts the most active geysers of any geothermal park in New Zealand.

Geysers are rare natural phenomena that represent increasingly important recreation, economic, and scientific resources. The features of geyser basins, including hot springs, mud pots, and fumaroles, are easily damaged by human development. In New Zealand, the extinction of more than geysers provides important lessons for the environmental management of the world’s remaining Cited by: Because the Golden Fleece fault is thought to terminate in this area it is not subject to the same cold lateral flows in the Orakeikorako tuff formation and the hot upflow is known to reach the surface because of the presence of hot springs on the ridge between the Cited by: 2.OrakeiKorako, Manager at Orakei Korako Cave & Thermal Park, responded to this review Responded 24 October Thanks for your review Betsy.
